Toyota Launches 3rd-generation Prius : DigInfo 2009
DigInfo – www.diginfo.tv Toyota Prius Related Links : – www.toyota.co.jp Toyota launched on May 18 the fully-remodeled third-generation Prius, which has its engine displacement increased from 1.5 liters to 1.8 liters. The new Prius is equipped with the Toyota Hybrid System II, a new hybrid system which includes a 1.8-liter engine, a motor and a reduction gear, more than 90% of which has been completely redesigned. The new hybrid system delivers a fuel efficiency of 38.0km/liter and driving performance on par with that offered with a larger 2.4-liter engine, through the synergy with improvement in energy efficiency and world-leading aerodynamic performance. The new Prius comes with four driving modes: the standard mode; the Eco-Drive mode which emphasizes fuel efficiency; the Power Mode allowing for more agile driving; and the Electric Vehicle Drive mode which uses just the electric motor for quiet cruising. The Eco-Drive monitor can display in real time the hybrid system indicator that shows acceleration and energy recovery conditions, one-minute or five-minute fuel efficiency rates, as well as a fuel efficiency history that shows average fuel efficiency and maximum fuel efficiency for the past five trips. The new Prius also features the solar ventilation system that uses power generated by solar panels installed on the sunroof to ventilate the vehicle interior, and the worlds first remote air conditioning system, enabling air conditioner operations from outside the …

If the Prius made 100 MPG, Do you think it could be marketed in the US?? NO. Oil companies have lots of say when it comes to politics.

priuses are not as ecofriendly as toyota commercials claim. the manufacturing of the batteries (harvesting, shipping, assembly, etc) causes the production of a single prius to give off more pollution than even that of a hummer. look it up

After the nickel is mined out of the ground in Canada, it is shipped to Wales to be processed, then shipped to Japan to make the car, then the car gets shipped back to the States / Europe.
Container ships burn bunker oil – at about 14 feet per gallon, it is about 20% sulfur. The fuel consumption of a container ship is about 14 feet per gallon.
By the time the Pious is actually delivered it has a bigger carbon footprint than a locally made car (ie an Audi / Chrysler) has after 20 years.

How many of you naysayers actually owns a Prius? The silence if deafening…….
Handles GREAT, plenty of power for any driving condition except MORON speeding, handles GREAT in snow. Looks great, saves a ton of gas, really quiet inside and out, plenty of leg room.
Unless you have driven a Prius for a few weeks, your negative comments are mute.

The whole “It’s a bigger carbon footprint than a normal car” crap is total bunk. That report was created and pushed by a PR company that works for Exxon Mobile. “Look that up”
It’s not “strip mining”, and second of all it’s called “Rare Earths” and it’s mined in Canada, South Africa, and other places.
I didn’t buy a Prius to safe earth – I bought it so I can safe a ton of money on gas and still have enough room to pack up the family and the dog.

hey carolblogs, the prius ,has one of the biggest carbon foot prints, before it is driven off the lot, the prius for carbon foot print wise , is one of the most filthy cars ever to be made in histoy of motoring.
you should stop pretending the prius is clean, because it is not ..

If you are an owner of a Prius, you pick up a hitchhiker at the top of the mountain.
And you go down the mountain with charging its battery, and you release the hitchhiker at the foot of the mountain.
You can put stones on your Prius instead of a hitchhiker.

oh god not another one…when is it gonna end? It’s still an ugly egg car. You’re not saving more money cause the car cost more and insurance is higher. The money you save not getting this car you can use it on a 4 cylinder car with good gas mileage.

Why is that only Toyota is being surrounded and criticized? I mean, the parts that is the main cause of this was made by a fuckin American manufacturing company, right? We have to consider which factory made the fuckin parts. Also who benefits by
lowering the Toyota’s image? GOVERNMENT CAR COMPANTY GM or some other Korean cars or something.
Headshot426 on February 4, 2010 at 3:16 pm
Its not the pedals dumbasses. And the prius is 100% Japanese. These pedals are not american, and designed by Jap engineers regardless.
Toyota quality is garbage.
Headshot426 on February 4, 2010 at 3:18 pm

Yes indeed, The lowest maintain and service during it’s lifespan of the car.. It must be garbage that can last that long…
Prius is still an ugly car, and until they get the plugin out on the market its a car that is meant to send out a image of the person driving it, rather then fuelefficiency..
Well well, Quality cars comes first and formost from germany, safest cars, Sweden, Sports car, (Italia, UK). and the junk cars are MADE IN USE…
