I have a garden and some of my plants are getting eaten on the leaves. I think they are snails but I am not sure. I would rather not use chemicals.

A while back we had a freeze and some of the plants in the garden died. Later in the year after the freeze some other plants had a hard time staying healthy and eventually died. I am starting to wonder if i need to replace the soil. Do i need to dig up the entire garden and replace everything? Or can I just put down topsoil?

I want to grow a surprise in our garden for my family. I need suggestions for unusual food. Something that you wouldn’t normaly see in a garden.

I live in Chicago. I have a container garden, approzimately 60" long, 20" wide, 16" tall. It still cold at nite here, so the box is actually a cold frame, covered by a piece of insulated glass I found a while back. A couple of weeks ago, I transplanted one strawberry, two tomato, and one basil plant. The basil is dead, strawberry looks dead, and the tomatoes are withering. As for the soil, every year, I go to a city site where I get compost, which I add to the mix. However, since I can’t make myself spend a bunch of money on vermiculite, I’m only guessing the soil may not be draining well; even after not watering for 3 or 4 days, below an inch the soil is still damp. About a week ago I dug up about a dozen worms, and transplanted them to the container, but no improvement so far. Calling all green thumbs: SOS!

I have a hyacinth & snowdrops in pots ans want to plant them in the garden. The gardening books I have say let the green leaves die down then plant. Do i still need to water them though?

I think I can find a nature-friendly product to provide light to my garden during the night. Something that could get charged during the day using solar energy. Any ideas?

Last year they got most of our garden, and we’re hoping to avoid a repeat. We’ve tried spraying the plants with hot sauce and garlic, which didn’t do anything. Plus, our cat is scared of them since they’re bigger than he is. I’ve heard that human hair can help, or burying soap in the garden. Any input on those, or any other solutions?

I need some information as to which plants and flowers are good for this type of garden. I would like a nice variety of colour and smells with little maintenance if this is possible?

I have a small vegetable garden and I used manure last year and my garden did not do so well.Is there something better I could use. The garden is about 3′x 12′ and I grow tomatoes,beans,peppers,and onions. Is there something better then manure or is there something else I could add with the manure to get a better results.

A friend of mine is trying to secretly make a garden in her backyard for her mother’s birthday which is next month. I promised to help but i have no idea where to start and neither does she, anybody got any ideas? I know the mom likes flowers and nice looking plants. Tips or the names of sites i can go to would be greatly appreciated.
