Porsche Cayman Review – Kelley Blue Book
FOR MORE CAR VIDEOS & REVIEWS CHECK OUT www.kbb.com Porsche Cayman. There are cars that are faster, pricier and more aggressive looking than the Porsche Cayman. But in strictly aesthetic terms few cars match the sheer desirability of the Cayman’s seductive shape. Essentially a fixed-roof version of the Porsche Boxster, the Cayman transcends its roots to become something distinct from and perhaps even better than the car from which it was derived. Before the Cayman came on the scene, the only coupe offered by Porsche was the much more expensive 911. Combining a more accessible price with enough comfort and practicality to serve as daily transportation, the Cayman also delivers all the driving excitement enthusiasts have come to expect from a Porsche. Gorgeous looks?? What is he talking about?

There is more to it than just looking at the price….You’re obviously looking based on value…Sort of a Timex vs Rolex argument, they both tell time but I prefer the Rolex…While you may think it’s better to buy a a 135i, I’ll bet you any amount the guy driving the 135i would rather be driving the Cayman…I have a 335i myself and I would trade it in a heart beat for the Cayman…

These ideas are subjective. If you prefer the brand and name as the status symbol over pure performance, I can’t force you to think otherwise. Just like car reviewers try not to judge the looks of the car whether they are good or not because it all depends on the person’s preference. My posts above are strictly focusing on performance itself which is my personal preference. While I do consider looks and brand I am mostly looking for the best bang for the buck.

I owned a 911 Turbo and I don’t want another…I am buying a Cayman S…Have you ever driven a mid engine car? I’ve owned a Ferrari 355 TB…A 348 TS and the wifes Mondial T cab….Until you’ve driven a mid engine car on a track, you won’t understand….The 911 is without question a great car…Best brakes on any car I’ve ever driven, Period!
But, all that weight hanging over the ass end does not inspire confidence going into a turn, as a matter of fact, it’s downright scary at times….
genesis667 on August 3, 2009 at 9:55 pm
There is no way a 135i is going to to out perform a Cayman S on the track…Ain’t gonna happen! I have a 335i with a JB3 and it rips on most any car I come up against…But, I’m not delusional thinking I could beat a Cayman in anything other than a straight line..Throw some curves in and that 3,500lbs of weight doesn’t stand a chance….I used to track my 355 and had no problem with cars pushing a hell of a lot more power…Mid engine makes up for a lot when you throw in some turns…

I’m not sure what you meant on the last sentence but…
The ZR1 ($100k) has been proven to outperform the Carrera GT (Porsche’s supercar well over $400k).
As for GT-R outperforming the GT2? It happened and the V-Spec (with unofficial times) has dominated even more on the Nurburgring.
7:29.03 2009 Nissan GT-R
7:32.02 2008 Porsche 911 GT2
Official video proven times
7:25 Nissan GT-R V-Spec
Unofficial measured by bystanders at the track.
Not considering the price difference is just ignorant.

First of all 135i>335 as proven by Edmunds Inside Line (when strictly talking about performance). Just cause the number is smaller doesn’t mean it’s a worse car.
I was referring to the normal Cayman (not the S) which still costs 50k and gets outperformed by the 135i as seen here
/watch?v=BeahQyxfvxY&feature=related
and other car magazines.
Don’t even get me started on the 370z which outperforms the 135i and costs literally twice as less then the Cayman S.

who needs all that shit when you should just be enjoying the car plus luxury just makes a car heavy which makes it slower and nasty around the corners plus porsches rear engine design puts more weight on the rear wheels which increases traction around the corners
youmils03 on August 13, 2009 at 10:24 pm
Luxury doesn’t add very much weight, at all, to a car. Even if it did, the performance might change, but not necessarily in a negative way. For example, the BMW M5 is much heavier than the Lotus Elise. Is the M5 a great performance car? Absolutely! It gets from 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds, and it has a 500hp V10. The Elise is lighter, which therefore implies a smaller engine. It gets from 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds but has way less than 500hp (I’m not certain of the exact number).
my1999porscheboxster on August 14, 2009 at 11:34 am
have you ever driven an m5 around a corner it is actually quit horrible it has way to much over steer and plus the boxster and cayman have enough luxury for me mine has beautiful red leather and a great sound system what else do you need the other people all want a soft ride
youmils03 on August 14, 2009 at 11:44 pm
The M5 might not be the best turner, but the M5 generally has exceptional handling, ride quality, luxury (standard nav system w/voice recognition, premium sound system, heated and cooled front seats, etc. etc. etc.), acceleration, and figures (HP and torque). Can you really compete with a 500hp 5.0 liter V10? But you can fuck the E63. It’s even more expensive, and it just has a silly little V8.
my1999porscheboxster on August 15, 2009 at 9:40 pm
don’t know if you have seen the loutus exige plus an m5 is a 4 door sedan it isn’t even in the same class sure if your a soccer mom it’s great PLEASE WATCH TOP GEAR LOUTUS VS. MUSTANG
youmils03 on August 15, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Lotuses may be very fast and sexy-looking, but it’s weak as fuck. It’s SO tiny (so that a father/husband wouldn’t be able to share it with his wife and two kids all at the same time) (and very limited legroom), weak (very little power for a sports car), and not luxurious whatsoever (standard features: power windows, power door locks, air conditioning, done). It’s a sports car, but that’s the only thing it’s good at. The M5 has luxury, roominess, POWER, and CYLINDERS…..
DTHPRF66 on August 26, 2009 at 7:01 am
thats an under-estimated video because people usually assume that the car with more HP will win, in essence, and fact, weight is ANY CARS OWN NIGHTMARE. That video proves that a smaller car in twisty roads can out handle a faster vehicle.

Zee four koop… er, I think you will find that should be pronounced ‘Z [zed] four coupé [koo-pay] ‘, should it not?
defears3 on September 3, 2009 at 5:18 am
if not mentioned before, the cupholders don’t swing around while driving. Your suppose to push that panel back in place which would stop it from swinging and keep the cupholders in place. Cup holders aren’t the best but who cares, this is a great car for the money.

I am very surprized many people have the same opinion as you do. You can never compare Lotus with BMW. You do not understand what LIGHT WEIGHT CAN DO in sports car at all. Even just 25kg of additional weight, car can show totally diferrent moves. In extreme opinion, it does not matter what sort of engine the car has as long as the car is very light. Just drive Caterham super 7. (Or Lotus Elise) The car can provide so much world BMW can never provide. It is because of the light weight.
ramrambatti on September 20, 2009 at 8:47 pm
Your talk is based on the specification on the paper, but not on the actual driving experience. Just you say anything, please drive light weight sports car in 70s. They do not have fancy engines, but they are so fun to drive due to their light weight. Lotus engineers would definitely understand the simple physics while they continue to make light weight cars. They were inspired by Mazda Miata. (I own MIata, RX8 and S2000.) The cars are to heavy nowadays due to safety issues, etc.
youmils03 on September 20, 2009 at 10:34 pm
Good point. Numbers are just numbers. The experience is 99% of it. All I’m saying is that big engines really impress people like me. I’d be wowed by a 600hp V12 as opposed to a 300hp V6, but you are right. If I was to actually drive one of the cars, the V6 has a good chance of impressing me more than the bigass V12.
DildoBaggins202 on September 23, 2009 at 5:30 am
Amen!… I wish more people had the understanding of cars such as you and I…. their are so many ignorant people out there that don’t consider many factors and all they look at is Horsepower and Torque

the Boxter is more relavant but if you don’t have a garadge for the Poarche then you’ll better off with the Cayman, I like how it blends with the other and 911. Poarche. very impressive.
